office attire (Batik Bang Kawung)

Today I am wearing a made to order shirt, the shirt is cut and sewn from a Batik Sarong fabric. As I explained in my earlier post in March this year, Batik is one of Indonesian cultural heritage. The motif on my Batik shirt is called Bang Kawung.  Usually Kawung motifs were named based on the size and shape contained in the particular motif, as well as inspired from the Kawung fruit (sometimes developed from coconut or Kolang Kaling fruit).

I just love the romance behind anything, a story behind a creation is what I called the romance....

Here are Googled images of world leaders in their Batik suits, and guess what? Nelson Mandela is very proud of his Batik! (as I am too....)

Rembrandt House

Remember my post What is inside the bag?
Well, I am going to tell you the story behind the medallion necklace here,

Museum het Rembrandthuis (The Rembrandt House Museum) is actually a  house in Jodenbreestraat in Amsterdam,Netherlands, where Rembrandt lived and painted for nearly twenty years. It is now a museum. We visited this world heritage UNESCO approved site, when way back than Rembrandt purchased the house in 1639 and lived there until he went bankrupt in 1656, back than all his belongings were auctioned. Thanks to the detailed inventory and catalogue for the auction, and also some drawings by Rembrandt, the museum has an unusually good idea of the contents, which has allowed the museum to reconstruct the appearance of the rooms with similar period items.

My husband and I both love Rembrandt, me especially! The dramatic light he use in his painting is just magical, capturing the exact moment and tell so many secrets behind the making ~or at least that's what I feel about his paintings/works. When we visit a museum, we always ended up in the museum shops because we love collecting books. On this particular trip, I purchase the collector coins. And when I am back in Bali, I turned the coin into a medallion pendant. Love it!
