Elephant Trunk Hill Guilin [unpublished]

Here goes another flashback in time and unpublished series from my trip to Guilin, south of China.

The Elephant Trunk Hill (Xiàngbí Shān) is a landmark in Guilin. It is the symbol of the city of Guilin. It got its name because it looks like an elephant drinking water. The round opening that would be under the elephant’s trunk is known as Water-Moon Cave because at night the reflection of the moon can be seen through the arch and it looks like it is under the water and floating on the surface of the water at the same time. Elephant Trunk Hill and Water-Moon Cave are located at the confluence of the Taohua River and the Lijiang River.

activities around the area,

lunch time, again another local food of mix rice,

bao, yummy bun!

By night we took the Li River cruise.... It is a night cruise along the two rivers and four lakes, included Li river, peach blossom river, Rong lake , San lake, Gui lake and Mulong lake, they are connected and linked-up each other. Actually, it's a waterway transportation which made up of Guilin downtown around the city water system. Its a complete moat river system in Guilin since over 1,000 years ago. Nowadays, the two rivers and four lakes is a pearl to Guilin city, making Guilin more beautiful and livable. There are many variety of flowers and trees were planted both side of the two rivers and four lakes, and it also embellished by many unique stones, arch-shaped bridges, pagoda, man-made fountains, ancient pavilion, etc. can be seen along the way. It provides a very good relaxing place both for the local residents and tourists. The lights, the music, the people walking along the riverside are looking colorful and beautiful..... the cruise gives you a new and deep impression of Guilin that you won't see during the daytime.

it was a good day, and night! :)

The Longsheng rice terraces Guangxi

The Longsheng Rice Terraces are located in Longsheng County, about 100 km (2 hours drive) from Guilin, Guangxi, China. The terraced fields are built along the slope winding from the riverside up to the mountain top, the highest part being 880 m in elevation while the lowest part is 380 m. The coiling line that starts from the mountain foot up to the mountain top divides the mountain into layers of water glittering in the sun in spring, layers of green rice shoots in summer, layers of golden rice in fall, and layers of silvery frost in winter. The terraced fields were mostly built during the Ming Dynasty, about 500 years ago.
